The Khaya Leather Waistbag - The Encounter Print
Introducing The Khaya Waistbag. A unisex and modern take on the fannypack using strong and structured lines to showcase a reinterpretation of traditional African aesthetics.
Printed vegetable tanned leather comprising of three African inspired custom graphics of which two were created especially for us in collaboration with artist Brian Tompkins.
The Encounter:
Deriving inspiration from the geometric shapes handwoven on traditional Kuba cloth, then taking those shapes and creating ones with softer and more curved lines, Multidisciplinary Artist, Brian Tompkins created an amalgamation between the Kuba shapes and Bushmen drawings found in Southern Africa.
And out of this amalgamation came 'The Encounter' of two shapes: if you look carefully you'll see the shape of a man encountering (the shape of) what looks to be an animal. Hence the name •The Encounter•
Our Khaya Waistbags combines luxury, fashion, culture, and functionality.
